Biathlon Snowshoe Relay – a blast in many ways

Courtenay, BC. March 29th, 2010 –  Along with nineteen teams with a total of a 114 participants who donned costumes and snowshoes, 40 biathlon race course officials and volunteers from Nanaimo, Victoria, Coquitlam, the Comox Valley and Campbell River came out this weekend for the first biathlon snowshoe fundraiser in support of Rotary’s PolioPlus program and VIMSS (Vancouver Island Mountain Sports Society).

Close to $15000 was raised from relay pledges, sponsors and donations. “We were very lucky with the weather,” said Catherine Egan, co-chair of the event. “It was bright and sunny yesterday morning up at Mt Washington’s Biathlon Range as teams when through their safety check on the rifles.”

Biathlon Buzz on Mount Washington

Courtenay, BC. March 1st, 2010 –  The Biathlon Buzz is building for the first Biathlon Snowshoe Blast to be held on Sunday, March 28th on Mountain Washington. “This is a great opportunity to check out the new world class biathlon range in a fun filled team relay event,” said Pat Douglas, of the Vancouver Island Biathlon Club and a member on the 2010 Snowshoe Blast Organizing Committee. Shown here holding a Snowshoe Blast flyer at the Olympic Biathlon Range where Pat has spent the last 17 days as a biathlon official, Pat added “it was an amazing experience to see all the enthusiasm and interest in this sport.”

Rotary Clubs and Mountain Sports Society announce
Biathlon Snowshoe Relay
- a collaborative fundraising event at Mount Washington set for this March


Courtenay, BC. January 19th 2010
– The Vancouver Island Mountain Sports Society (VIMSS) and the six Rotary Clubs in the Comox Valley and Campbell River have joined forces to organize the first Biathlon Snowshoe Blast to be held Sunday, March 28th at the Nordic Centre on Mount Washington. The Biathlon Snowshoe Blast will be a major fundraiser for both the Vancouver Island Mountain Sports, a non-profit society assisting emerging athletes, and Rotary District 5020’s 2010 PolioPlus campaign.
